Don’t Get Caught by Surprise! Know Your TRUE Risk for Heart Disease and Stroke

Advanced cardiovascular screening is more important today than it’s ever been. Undetected cardiovascular disease is the greatest health risk facing people today. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for both men and women as about 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year–that’s 1 in every 4 deaths. Unfortunately, most of these deaths were preventable had there been a comprehensive evaluation and appropriate guidance and care.

Standard cholesterol tests do not tell the whole picture in gauging an individual’s risk of cardiovascular disease. Increasingly, general medical consensus views the standard cholesterol testing as only a part of the information needed for an accurate assessment of imminent and ongoing risk and believe chronic silent inflammation plays a more critical role in the development of heart disease.

At The Lamkin Clinic, we have developed a unique, comprehensive risk-assessment protocol, including diagnostics and lab work aimed at early detection of underlying metabolic, genetic, and other silent risk biomarkers for cardiovascular disease.

Your Advanced Cardiovascular Screening may include one or more of the following:

Traditional Lipid Profile

A basic and traditional group of tests used to determine risk for cardiovascular and related diseases. This is a good start, but we recommend combining with more advanced testing for a more accurate picture of health.

Lipoprotein Particle Assessment

This information is a much better predictor of risk than traditional lipid profiles alone. This can give us a more in-depth look at your heart health and better determine your risk for developing disease.

Omega-3 Index Test

This unique test analyzes the omega constituents of red blood cells providing a longer-term indicator of adequate consumption and or supplementation again affecting treatment guidelines.

Metabolic Marker Screen

Bio-markers related to insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control play a crucial role as key indicators for early detection of diabetes. Detecting diabetes in its early stages is vital as it significantly raises the risk of developing heart disease, emphasizing the importance of monitoring these bio-markers closely.

Nutrition Screening

Our partnered laboratories provide a wide array of comprehensive panels consisting of advanced tests. These tests encompass various nutritional markers that play a crucial role in shedding light on the root cause of vessel inflammation, aiding in a more precise diagnosis and targeted treatment approach.

Calcium Score

This non-invasive procedure involves the utilization of computed tomography (CT) to precisely measure the quantity of calcium deposits within the heart, with a particular focus on identifying deposits within the coronary arteries. This method plays a crucial role in assessing the overall health of the heart and detecting potential issues early on.

Cardiac Function

Advanced tests detect strain or other damage to the heart muscle, which can lead to more appropriate treatment for preventing heart attacks. This can help determine if a referral for echocardiogram and specialty cardiology consultation is necessary.

Genetic Predisposition

Genetic markers not only help predict risk for heart attacks and strokes but help guide treatment. Several markers help determine the genetic propensity of an individual to form plaque in their arteries develop clots, which lead to heart attacks and strokes.

Ankle Brachial Index

The Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) is the ratio of the blood pressure in the lower legs to the blood pressure in the arms. Compared to the arm, lower blood pressure in the leg is an indication of blocked arteries (peripheral vascular disease or PVD).

Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT)

A non-invasive, state-of-the-art, cost-effective diagnostic tool for the earliest detection of cardiovascular disease. The value of carotid IMT (Intima-Media Thickness) has been recognized by the American Heart Association (and others) for the early detection of heart disease. This technology won “Most Life-Changing Product” at the 2008 BIOCOM conference.

Tilt Test

The modified “tilt” test simply measures blood pressure and heart rate while laying down, sitting up, and standing. The tilt test is a test used to evaluate and diagnose a condition called neurocardiogenic syncope, which is a common cause of lightheaded spells or fainting or passing out which can occur in otherwise healthy individuals.

Body Composition Analysis

Body composition measurement with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA)* can look beyond weight and the traditional body mass index (BMI) to determine body fat distribution, lean muscle mass, and body fat percentage. Body composition measurement contributes to thorough patient evaluation and helps our physician fully assess an individual’s risk of cardiovascular disease.
